James Forman

           Jamie Forman joined Oberman Thompson & Segal, LLC, of Minneapolis, MN, as a member in May 2007.  Prior to that time, Jamie practiced law for more than 21 years with Rider Bennett, LLP.

           Jamie represents businesses confronted with disputes or time urgent or crisis situations that frequently involve one or more of the following items:  non-competes, confidentiality agreements, trade secrets, confidential information, independent contractor status, business competition, vendor/supplier/customer contracts or relations, trademarks, copyrights, and restraining orders or injunctions. 

Jamie has spoken or written about a number of these items, including:

           Jamie also devotes time to teaching law students and performing bar association related work.  He currently is a co-adjunct clinical professor in the Business Law Clinic of William Mitchell College of Law (St. Paul, MN) and also a former trustee of William Mitchell College of Law (1994-2003). During his career, Jamie has been fortunate to be recognized and highlighted a number of times, including being:

●          Named a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

●          Named a Fellow of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Division.

●          Named a “Super Lawyer” --- Minnesota Law & Politics(2001, 2003-2006).

●         Co-Accepter on behalf of the Minnesota Chapter of the Lewis & Clark  College Alumni Association of the Lewis & Clark College Pioneer Alumni Leadership Award (2010).

●          Awarded the Donald G. Balmer Citation --- Lewis & Clark College (2005). 

●          Awarded, along with the other members of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Katrina Relief Fund Task Force, the David Graven Public Service Award (2006).

●          Selected a panelist in an article with four other Twin Cities lawyers on the topic entitled: “In the Boardroom: A roundtable discussion on some of the top issues and trends facing the legal profession today--- (William Mitchell College of Law Magazine --- Fall 2008 --- article by Phil Bolsta).

●          Highlighted in the article entitled: “Forman Advocates for Children” --- (Lewis & Clark College Chronicle, Vol.11, No. 2 (Winter/Spring 2002)).

●          Highlighted in the article entitled: “Champions of the Children” --- (The Magazine of St. Paul Academy and Summit School (Summer 2001)).

●          Named one of the “100 Who Made a Difference”--- William Mitchell College of Law (2001).

●          Highlighted in the article entitled: “Attorneys with a Heart” --- (Minnesota Lawyer (February 20, 1998)). 

           Jamie was admitted to practice law in Minnesota in 1985.  He is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State, Federal and American Bar Associations.  Jamie is a 1985 graduate – cum laude – from William Mitchell College of Law, 1981 Lewis & Clark College graduate (BA Political Science) (of which he is currently also a trustee) and 1977 of St. Paul Academy and Summit School.  Jamie is married and he and his spouse have two children.
